Introduction:
Institute for Plasma Research, Gandhinagar is an autonomous Physics research institute, that focuses on research in various aspects of plasma science including basic plasma physics, research on magnetically confined hot plasmas and plasma technologies for industrial applications. The Institute can trace its roots back to the early 1980's, when the growing activities in the field of Plasma Research resulted in the initiation of the Plasma Physics Program (PPP) in 1982 by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. In 1986, the Plasma Physics Program evolved into the autonomous Institute for Plasma Research under the Department of Science and Technology and is currently housed in an independent campus at Bhat village in the outskirts of Gandhinagar

Currently, Institute for Plasma Research, Gandhinagar is an internationally recognized Institute that have made significant contributions to fundamental and applied research in plasma physics and associated technologies. IPR Gandhinagar has a scientific and engineering manpower of 200 with competency in areas like theoretical plasma physics, computer modeling, superconducting magnets and cryogenics, ultra high vacuum, pulsed power, microwave and RF, computer-based control and data acquisition and industrial, environmental and strategic plasma applications.

Located on the banks of the Sabarmati river near the Indira Bridge in village Bhat ( Gandhinagar district), IPR Gandhinagar is approximately midway between the cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. It can easily be reached from Ahmadabad, being about 5 Kms from the Ahmedabad airport, and 14 Kms from the Ahmedabad railway station.
