The admissions to the Undergraduate Programs for all Indian and Foreign nationals at these institutions are made through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Apart from the seven IITs admission to undergraduate courses of IT-BHU, Varanasi and Indian School of Mines University, Dhanbad is also done through the Joint Engineering Entrance Exam. Pattern of JEE 2009: Each of the above two question papers would consist of three sections on Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry and the questions will be of objective type in nature designed to test the comprehension and analytical ability of the candidates. Incorrect answer would attract negative marking.
The Indian Institutes of Technology are institutions of national importance established through an Act of Parliament. These Institutes play a leading role in technological manpower development and have research programs comparable to the best in the world. The institute is present in Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee.
Candidates called for counseling but desirous of joining the B.Arch. and B.Des. courses will be required to qualify in an Aptitude Test to be conducted at each counseling institute on June 21, 2009. The test will consist of two papers, each of two hours duration from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon, and from 2.00 pm to 4:00 pm. Candidates who fail to qualify in the Aptitude Test will not be eligible for admission to either B.Arch. or B.Des. courses. Question papers for aptitude test for B.Arch and B.Des will be in English only.
Eligibility:
Candidates appearing in (10+2) or equivalent qualifying examination in 2008 must secure at least 60% (55% for SC/ST and PD) marks in aggregate in their respective Board Examination.
In case of respective Boards award letter grades, without providing a norm for converting them to equivalent percentage marks, the norms decided by the Joint Implementation Committee of JEE shall be final.
A student can have only two attempts to write JEE. Candidates who join any of the IITs, IT-BHU, Varanasi, and Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad through IIT JEE - 2008 will not be permitted to appear in JEE in future.
One can submit an online application form from any of the websites of IIT. For off line applications, one can buy an application form with information brochure from any of the designated branches of banks by paying Rs. 500/ for SC/ST and Female candidates or Rs 1000/ for all other candidates that would contain all relevant information for JEE 2009.
