Indian Council for Historical Research (ICHR), established by the Ministry of Human Research Development (MHRD), functions to streamline the historical researches carried out in India and encourage researchers to carry out detailed study in the field of History.
ICHR is an autonomous organization which was established under Societies Registration Act (Act XXI of 1860) in 1972, functions to:
- to bring historians together and provide a forum for exchange of views between them;
- to give a national direction to an objective and scientific writing of history and to have rational presentation and interpretation of history;
- to promote, accelerate and coordinate research in history with special emphasis on areas which have not received adequate attention so far;
- to promote and coordinated a balanced distribution of research effort over different areas;
- to elicit support and recognition for historical research from all concerned and ensure the necessary dissemination and use of results."
Financial Assistance: MHRD provides financial assistance through higher education department to carry out researches through this educational institution.
Functioning with its headquarters based in New Delhi, it also has region centres at Bangalore and Guwahati.
Students willing to avail grants provided by ICHR can apply anytime. However, no particular time frame is provided to avail this grant.
