Though your child may be spending long hours in school, but majority of the balance time is spent at home only. Here are some tips for parents to help you get your child organize a good study pattern.

Home is the first and foremost institution for children to learn.  Apart from being in school, a child spends most of his time with parents; learning from his parents and the environment provided to him at home. Parents play a pivotal role in the education of their child, irrespective of their age. If parents pay attention to their child, it helps them to make good progress in scholastic activities. If parents take care of following things, they can improve the education of their children.

Spend more time with your children:

Despite rushing through hectic schedules to meet deadline of the office, spare ample time with your children. If you keep on ignoring your children, it will make them feel irresponsible and they will lose interest in study.

Spend time with your children as much as possible and discuss with them about their studies on daily basis. Ask them daily, what they learned in school or college. Help them in their studies, if possible. Talk to them about how they can improve. Make them aware of the importance of study in their life. By this way, children start taking interest in their studies and they do well in exam.

Beyond this, during the time that you spend with children, probe into the issues (could be an interaction with teacher or principal / may be a tough boy who is bullying your child) encountered by them on the particular day. If you find that they handled well then appreciate them. If not, teach them how to handle the issue, without the interference of parents.   These things too stand as great hindrances to do well in studies.

Provide right environment at home:

Environment at home affects life to a great extend. Create loving environment having good relationships among all family members which will have good impact on the mind of your children so that they can study well. If there is lot of stress at home, children will not be able to concentrate on their studies.

Avoid activities such as turning on television or hearing loud music which can absorb the attention of your child when they study. Provide them a quiet place to study where they can concentrate. Make the walls colorful with material or picture related to studies on the walls.

Encourage your children:

Appreciate if they do well in exam. Encourage them to work hard if they get poor grades. Never rebuke your child for poor grades.

But, on the other hand, appreciating them for their achievements in exam, they start to work hard to get more appreciations.

Encouraging them if they fail or get less mark enables them to stand again and start with new determination.

Be connected with child's school:

Make frequent visits to your child's school or college - at least  once a month. Enquire with the relevant teacher about child's studies and behavior. It will give you an insight about your child. This periodical interaction will help to understand your child in, much better way. Both, you and teacher together can come to know about the weakness of your child and help to take right steps to improve and overcome such weaknesses.

Discuss with your child about their problems:

Scoring good marks may not just be ruled out that the child's lack in interest to study lessens. Maybe, your child would have some problems which hinder their study. Some sort of contemplation - may be health or a birthday celebration or upcoming sports events or virtual image of tyrant teacher in the mind of your child or even trivial things and many more.  Always try to be friendly while discussing with them about their problems so that they can come out openly.

Closely watch your children's activities:

Have a close watch on the daily activities of your children. They may not be utilizing their energy and time in necessary activities. They may be wasting time in playing games or watching movies. Never suspect your children, instead have a watch on their activities in a way so that they may not feel that you are suspecting on them.

Help children to improve study habits:

Understanding the objective of studies is a milestone achievement in the life of a child. Learning how to study is another landmark in the process of studying.  Because, many children do not know the answer for these two important questions.
Help your children to develop good study habits. Teach children to wake-up early and sleep in time. Slowly teach them how to plan for a day, then for two days and then for a week.  Encourage them to execute and stick to the plan most of the time without much compromise.

Keep tab of your behavior while advising:

As a parent, it is highly important to know the appropriate balance of love and firmness. Show love while advising children. Be authoritative while prohibiting them from some things. Never spank them but strictly prohibit them from wasting time or unnecessary activities or wrong manners etc so that can they take it serious and follow it.
