You too can crack UPSC examination!- 23-May-2019

In an effort to get through the Union Public Service Commissions (UPSC) Preliminary, Main and Interview examination towards IAS, IPS and other civil service positions in the country its imperative to perform really well.   


The preliminary examination comprises of two papers - General Studies (GS) as well as Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT). CSAT paper comprises various aptitude questions from Maths, Reasoning and Comprehension. General Study paper will be corrected only if the candidate gets above 66 marks in the CSAT paper. Both these papers comprises of 100 objective type questions for 200 marks. Wrong answers carry negative marks.


Those clearing the preliminary examinations move on to appear for the Mains. 


Main examination comprises of 9 papers with 4 general subjects, 2 optional subjects, composition, English and any regional language. Only if the candidate scores 25 marks in both language papers, other 7 papers would be corrected. Rest of the 7 papers is for 250 marks each, totally for 1750 marks. Only those scoring more than the allotted cut-off marks in the main examination will go to the interview.


Candidates belonging to OBC, SC, ST community do have a different cut-off.


Until the main level, candidates comprehending skills, writing skills and presentation skills are tested. In the interview, candidates skills such as administrative, emotional quotient, stress management, taking up challenges, quick problem solving skills and emotional balance are tested for 275 marks.


Civil service examination is conducted every year for total marks of 2025 marks in Main as well as in interview.


Though only 1000 vacancies are to be filled every year, nearly 9 lakh candidates apply across the country. Among this 80 per cent are male. Enrollment of female candidates is very poor. Although 9 lakh apply for the examination, just 3 lakh prepare well for the examination. Out of which only 13,000 make it to the Mains. Among this, 2500 make it through to the Interview level.


Its important to work really hard for all the three stages of UPSC examination. Making it through this examination is possible only if you could provide answers with proper understanding. Success in UPSC depends on individuals general knowledge, question paper pattern, sound knowledge on wide array of topics and the ability to answer with speed and precision.
