Printing is a process for production of texts and images, typically with ink on paper using a printing press. It is often carried out as a large-scale industrial process, and is an essential part of publishing and transaction printing.

 
With the advent of science and technology, computers, lasers and microprocessor, Printing has become no longer a craft. It is a multi-disciplinary profession, dealing with integration of text and graphic to make a final print by transferring ink on paper or board or other materials.

As a Printing Technologist, you can find jobs in newspapers and magazines, railway presses, advertising agencies, machine manufacturers, and in packaging industries. You can also start your own printing press.

 
In  Printing Technologist, you would be learning techniques like the preparation of image carrier, the actual printing procedures like letter press, lithography, gravure, flexography, screen, laser and inkjet and  Post press techniques- finishing operations like cutting, folding, binding, laminating, and embossing, Packaging Technology- techniques of printing on packaged products, Materials Technology-knowledge of materials used like paper, ink, plates and chemicals.

 

In Tamil Nadu B.E / B.Tech. Printing technology is offered in College Of Engineering Anna University main Campus and also in some of the deemed universities like Avinashilingam instt for home science & higher education for women Coimbatore.
