Institute of Himalayan Bio-Resource Technology is yet another institution functioning under the ambit of ICMR that carries out advanced research work on bio-resources for catalysizing bio-economy in a sustainable manner.

Situated in Himachal Pradeshs Polambur, its prime objective is to identify, develop and commercialize the diverse bio resources using the latest cutting edge scientific technology.

Features: The salient features of this institution are laboratories with latest high end technology, Herbal Park with international recnonisation, Remote sensing and Mapping facilities, Research on herbs and herbal medicines are the various salient features .

It functions with involvement of several dedicated dynamic young researchers working hard to fix challenges faced by the industries and society using scientific technology .

Eligibility:

To join Ph.D. (Science) should have passed National Level Fellowship NET-JRF/SRF of various funding agencies (UGC/CSIR/DBT/ICMR/BINC/INSPIRE/GPAT or other equivalent fellowships)

Ph.D. programme at CSIR-IHBT should have Masters in : (i). Biological Sciences- Agriculture Sciences/ Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ Botany/ Entomology/ Forestry and Environmental Sciences/ Food Science/ Floriculture/ Genetics and Plant Breeding/ Microbiology/ Nanotechnology/ Plant Pathology/Plant Physiology/  Pharmaceutical sciences (Pharmacology & Pharmacology and Toxicology)/ Zoology/ Human Genetics / Statistics (for Ph.D. in Bioinformatics) and (ii). Chemical Sciences-Organic Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry/Inorganic Chemistry/Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

B.E./ B.Tech./ M.Tech. Biotechnology/Bioinformatics/Food Science with valid National or other equivalent Fellowships are also eligible.

Training & Courses:
Apart from offering full time PhDs, it facilitates getting placements, along with short term courses towards developing personality, soft skills..

The post graduate students can do six months project work at the Institute with limited bench space  available for undertaking project work as a part of post-graduate degree.


Institute organises regular training programs in cultivation of MAPs, processing of Herbals, Floriculture, Tissue Culture and Tea. Institute also plans to launch a certificate/ diploma courses in tissue culture, quality control and analytical chemistry.
