Cuba to host workshop on outer space- 14-Aug-2013

Havana: The Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment will host the 10th national workshop on "The Outer Space and its Peaceful Use" on October 7 and 8, as part of the activities for the World Outer Space Week.
 
Members of the Organizing Committee said the objective is to promote the exchange of experiences and join efforts to improve the use of the applications of the space technology in Cuba, and favour the integration among the entities linked to the field.
 
Cuban newspaper Granma said the topics to be debated include astronomy, space geophysics, tele-detection, GPS, space physics, education at distance, the work with space technology in other fields such as medicine,  communications, agriculture and others.
 
The United Nations General Assembly declared the week between October 4 and 10 as the World Space Week, in which the contributions of space science and technology to the improvement of the human race are appreciated.
 
On October 4, 1957, the first artificial satellite of the Earth, called Sputnik, was launched, and the treaty on the principles ruling the activities of the nations in the exploration and use of the space, started in force on October 10, 1967.
