During the three days’ conference on ‘The importance and need for fundamental science in higher education’ held for South Regional Vice-Chancellors which started on Sep.10th, Smt.M.S.Purantheshwari, the Union Minister For Human Resources, high-lighted the importance of research in each field to promote the quality of higher education.
She said that before Independence there were only 20 Universities; now the number is 438, in which nearly 1crore and 10 lakhs students are pursuing their studies.
She also enlightened the public that these universities do take care of the faculties of national level institutions and hence the expansion of the universities of the state becomes imperative. The present day educational scenario emphasizes wide-ranging research work. This will certainly boost the growth expected in the higher education sector.
She further said that the University Grants Commission along with All India Council For Technical Education is trying to foster good faculties.An exclusive Executive Committee headed by M.M. Sharma has been formed through the Central Human Resource Development. Soon, throughout the nation, premium Research centers at various places will be established.
