Everyone goes through 'ups' and 'down' in life.

Depression is when the 'down' outweighs the 'ups' for more than few weeks causing problems with everyday activities like eating, sleeping, working and getting along with friends.

Clinical depression is a medical condition when the person feels very low or sad over a long period of time.

It can also cause low esteem, dejection and extreme feeling of hopelessness.

The symptoms of depression may differ from person to person.

Though there are hosts of symptoms for depression, lack of motivation, feeling of sadness, constant worry, sleeplessness, loss of appetite and feeling of worthlessness are few. 

Although science reveals several causes for depression, it is broad due to a chemical imbalance caused in the brain.

Like any other illness, depression can be successfully treated once diagnosed.

Below are few tips to overcome depression:


  • Set realistic goals
  • Exercise daily
  • Find out a hobby or two
  • Learn to be assertive when you are expressing anger
  • Try to know and develop your strengths
  • Find out what triggered the depression and try to be optimistic in the future
  • Replace positive thoughts for negative ones.
  • Get socially active
  • Do some volunteering work to keep yourself active
  • Seek professional help if symptoms of depression persist
Certainly, anyone can overcome depression through systematic professional help.
