Tirunelveli - A Special Enquiry Committee has been constituted to interrogate the Professor who had published in his name the article copied from an American University publication.
Mr.Krishnan (45) was the Head of the Department of Information Technology at the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli. He was a Reader in the same Department in 2005.
To get promotion as Professor, he had submitted 5 research papers to the UGC including the topic ‘Remote Sensing’. He had lifted the papers of 4 Professors of Purdue University, stating that these papers were his own findings.
Professor Bernard and the other American Professors submitted complaints to the Governor of Tamilnadu, Surjit Singh Barnala, UGC and to the Vice – Chancellor of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Nellai.
The Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Sabapathy Mohan held an enquiry regarding this matter. The Professor accepted the faux pas and sent an apology letter to the American Professors. He also handed over a written apology to the Vice-chancellor.
Till this date, he has kept under his control the University website and introduced several corrections. It is now come to the limelight that there is much manipulation in it. It also seems that a few VIPs have taken efforts to help him evade punishment.
The official sources of the University informed that a Committee comprising Professors would conduct an enquiry on this breach of copyright and take further action since students are likely to indulge in indefinite strike, as the issue is prone to blow up beyond proportion during the visit of Mr. Ponmudi, Minister for Higher Education.
