The National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR), an autonomous organisation under the Union Ministry of Rural Development, is a premier national centre of excellence in rural development and Panchayati Raj.

Recognized internationally, it builds capacities of rural development functionaries, elected representatives of PRIs, bankers, NGOs and other stakeholders through inter-related activities of training, research and consultancy.

In addition to the main campus at Hyderabad, this Institute has North-Eastern Regional Centre at Guwahati, Assam to meet the NE-regional needs.

The primary objectives is to focus on the policies and programmes that benefit the rural poor, strive to energise the democratic decentralization processes, improve the operation and efficiency of rural development personnel, promote transfer of technology through its social laboratories, Technology Park and create environmental awareness.

It also facilitates the rural development efforts with particular emphasis and focus on the rural poor by improving the knowledge, skills and attitudes of rural development officials and non-officials through organising training, workshops and Seminars.

It comprises 7 schools and 25 centres:

School of development studies & social justice
School of local governance
School of public policy and good governance
School of rural livelihoods and infrastructure
School of science, technology and knowledge systems
School of sustainable development
Professional support centers


The North Eastern Regional Centre was established in 1983 at Guwahati with the aim to orient its training and research activities to the specific needs and

potentials of North Eastern States.

Important programmes:


PG Diploma in Management - Rural Development ( 2 years)
PG Diploma in Management - Rural Development ( 1 year)

Eligibility:
The applicant must have obtained minimum 50% marks (45% marks for SC/ST and PWD candidates) or equivalent in Graduation from a recognised university. Students who are in the final year and expect to complete all the requirements may also apply

Selection process:
Should have valid score in any of the qualifying exams: CAT / XAT / MAT / CMAT / ATMA or through All India Entrance Examination conducted by NIRDPR, Hyderabad.
Shortlisted candidates will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interviews for final selection.

Scholarships:
Meritorious students will be eligible for NIRDPRs scholarship based on their performance during the trimester examination.
