Established in the year 1956, Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) functions under the aegis of MHRD, Government of India.

From the relatively narrow scope of Armament Studies alone in the Fifties, the role of the Institute was considerably enlarged by the Defence R&D
Council in 1964 and further in 1981.

On the basis of accreditation by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Pune University recognised eight courses for the award of
ME degree in 1980. In the year 2000, the Institute acquired the status of a Deemed to be University.  

Originally called the Institute of Armament Technology, (IAT) has been renamed as DIAT from 2006.

It is a center of Excellence of international repute for Education, Training and research in Advanced Technologies with a view to strengthen national security and self-reliance.

The primary objective is to evolve as an Innovative Unique Research University to develop indigenous contemporary Defence related technologies.

Phd programmes

Candidates have to apply online through the website, www.diat.ac.in

To apply for the MSc programme, applicants should have completed any UG studies in Food science, Food Technology, Nutrition, Engineering or Agriculture.

However, for Phd studies the applicant should have completed Post Graduation in the relevant field. Should have obtained a good score in the national level eligibility test.    

Scholarships are provided based on students academic prowess.
