How to become an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer?- 8-Jun-2021

It's the dream of many challenging youngsters to make it into the Intelligence Bureau (IB) as an officer.  

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) is an important set-up that takes care of the security of the nation. The candidates who are interested to join the services of IB need to know that the job is challenging and it will require them to be versatile so that they can perform their duties well.

Main objectives of IB include counterintelligence, counter-terrorism, VIP Security, anti-secession activities and intelligence collection in border areas. The
primary function is to operate in extreme secrecy - covert operations.

To join IB, its mandatory to have completed graduation from a recognised university.     


Competent Examination:
To become an Intelligence Officer in IB, need to take up for CGPE (Combined Graduate Preliminary Exam) which is conducted by SSC (Staff Selection Commission) every year.

Exam pattern:
The candidates who are to appear for the IB ACIO exam have to go through two tier of the exams. Tier I will be of 100 marks and Tier II will be of 50 marks. Each of 1 hour duration. After that, there will be an interview for 100 marks.

Tier I exam covers General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical/Analytical Ability, English Language each carrying 25 marks that has negative marking.

Essay Writing and English Comprehension & Prcis Writing are the sections in Tier II exam which is qualifying in nature.

Salary:
The officers are entitled to salary in the range of Rs. 44,900 to Rs. 1, 42, 000 along with the applicable allowances.
 
Women too can join IB.

Though, the work is extremely challenging,  but nothing to be scared of as long as you don't do anything mindless.

Eligibility:
Apart from having a graduation or equivalent qualification from a recognised university, the candidates must have knowledge of computers.
Candidates should be between 18 and 27 years. However, the upper age limit is relaxed for candidates belonging to reserved categories.
