Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is an organisation under Government of India to recruit staff for various posts in the various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and in Subordinate Offices.

This commission is an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).  

In 1975, Government of India constituted a commission called Subordinate Selection Commission, later it was renamed as Staff Selection Commission in 1977.

SSC is mainly engaged in conducting competitive exams for recruitment to various posts in the SSC departments, organizations.

With its Headquarters at New Delhi, the SSC has currently seven regional offices at Allahabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai, Bangalore and two sub-regional Offices at Raipur and Chandigarh.

The functions of the Staff Selection Commission have been enlarged from time to time and now it carries out the recruitment to all Group B posts.
in the pay scale of Rs 9300 to 34800 with a grade pay of Rs 42000.

SSC makes recruitment to Group B posts, non-technical Group "C" in the various Ministries/Departments of the Govt. of India.
In particular, it holds open competitive examinations for recruitment to the posts of Lower Division Clerks, Grade C and Grade D Stenographers,

Assistants in the various Ministries/Departments, Inspectors at Central Excise, Income-Tax, Preventive Officers and Examiners in Custom Houses, Assistant Enforcement Officers in Directorate of Enforcement.

After conducting competitive exams it selects Sub-Inspectors in Central Bureau of Investigation and Central Police Organisations; Divisional Accountants,

Auditors and Accountants under the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India and other Accounts Departments; Junior Engineer; Statistical Investigators, Tax Assistant.  The Commission recruitments Group B posts in the pay scales the maximum of which is Rs.10, 500.

Exams conducted by SSC:


Apart from conducting several exams,  every year SSC conducts the SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination for recruiting non-gazetted officers to various government jobs.
