Mohi conferred Gangadhar National Award for poetry- 4-Jan-2014
Sambalpur (Odisha): Renowned poet of Sindhi language Vasdev Mohi was conferred on the prestigious Gangadhar National Award For Poetry-2012 here.
Odisha Governor S C Jamir conferred the prestigious Award on renowned poet of Sindhi language Vasdev Mohi on the occasion of the 47th foundation day function of Sambalpur University here.
Named after Odisha's famous poet Gangadhar Meher, the award is given to a poet of national repute every year during the foundation day function of the University.
"Poetry is the custodian of civilization. Poetry makes us human being and check beast within us. Poetry, literature and all other art form make the world worth living. Poetry has no boundary," Mohi said after receiving the award, which includes Rs 50,000 in cash, a shawl and a Citation.
Stating that he was moved with the idea of naming the award after the name of the illustrious poet, Gangadhar Meher, Mohi said "Gangadhar Meher lit a lamp not for the people of Odisha but for the whole world."
"Every award brings some sort of responsibility with it. The responsibility to preserve the sanctity of award and keep the prestige of the inspiring person, on whose name the award has been instituted," the Sindhi poet said.
Earlier eminent poets such as Alli Sardar Zafri, Kedar Nath Singh, Ayyapa Panikar, Shakti Chottopadhyaya, K Sachidanandan, Dillip Chitre, Jayanta Mohapatra, Gulzar, Nabakanta Barua, Prof A M K Shahryar, Nirupama Kaur, Binda Karandikar, Haraprasad Dash, Ramakant Rath, Surjit Patar, Rajendra Kishore Panda and Balraj Komal have received this award for their excellence in the field of poetry.
Addressing the function Jamir said Sambalpur University served as beckon of light to disseminate knowledge in the Western Odisha. He stressed on teacher student relationship.
"The facts and figures do not make an university. Teacher students' relationship makes the institution cherish its goal," he said.
