EduTrust Certification is the Mark of Quality for a PEI


The EduTrust certification administered by the Council for Private Education (CPE) is a voluntary quality trust mark that affirms a Private Education Institution’s (PEI) status on financial health and standards in management and provision of education services, based on a comprehensive set of criteria. Successful PEIs can be awarded the EduTrust Star, EduTrust, or EduTrust Provisional certificate, depending on their level of attainment. A PEI needs to be EduTrust certified to enroll international students. This is one of the pre-requisites stipulated by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority in Singapore for the issuance of student passes.


 


Private institutes like Singapore Institute of Management, PSB Academy, East Asia School of Business (EASB), At Sunrice, Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) and many more are accredited with the EduTrust Certificate.

Application and Admission Processes: Entry requirements to institutions vary according to the course applied to, as well as from institution to institution. For the local polytechnics and universities, applications are typically done directly online with the respective institution. Applications are open for a specified period each year.


Accommodation: Most educational institutions have an International Student Office which offer advice on accommodation procedures, contacts for private rental agencies and room-mate matching services. Some of the accommodation options available to international students are Halls of Residence and Hostels, Boarding Schools, Private Hostels, Homestays and Public and Private Apartments / Houses.


Finances: Tuition Grants and Fees: The Ministry of Education (MOE) provides tuition grants to students who are enrolled at local universities and polytechnics. Students who accept the tuition grants need only pay the subsidized fee. The tuition grant is currently around SGD 22,400 for lab-based and SGD 19,000 for non lab-based undergraduate programmes for universities and SGD 13,300 for polytechnics.


 


Financial Assistance: Numerous financial assistance schemes like loans, Bursaries, Study Loans & Scholarships are available for international students who need help with tuition fees.


 


Visa: All international students are required to hold a valid student pass to study in Singapore.  To obtain a student pass, students must first be offered a place in a full-time programme with an institution that is authorized to admit international students.


 


Work-Study Privileges: International students are allowed to work part-time of up to 16 hours per week only for public universities during school term, upon obtaining prior permission from the Student Liaison / Affairs Office of their respective institutions. A Work Pass is not required for a foreign student if he/she is of 14 years of age or above, on vacation, and a full-time matriculated or registered student in one of the institutions approved by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).
