Youth development centre to be set up in Chandigarh: Minister- 13-Jan-2014

Ludhiana: To help groom the young artists from north Indian states, the government will set up a Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development Center in the state, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said here.

Singh, who is Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, said that the institute, which will come up in Chandigarh, would play a vital role in nurturing talent in the region.

He said the Union Government would soon announce the National Youth policy- 2014 aimed at empowering the youth of the country and ensuring their greater role in policy making.

The policy is also aimed at mobilising Indian youths for nation building, he added.

Singh was here in connection with the inaugural ceremony of the 18th National Youth Festival– 2014.

Earlier, participants from various states dressed in their traditional attire, performed various cultural programmes.

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal presided over the function while Union Minister and local MP Manish Tewari were also present on the occasion.
