The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a computer based test for admission in a graduate management program.

Admission into country's premier institution like IIM and to other management schools, colleges and universities are carried out based on CAT scores.     

There are 20 IIMs in the list of IIMs in India and these mostly offer post-graduate, doctoral and executive programs.

IIM institutions are functional at Calcatta , Ahmedabad , Banglore, Lucknow,   Kozhikode , Indore , Shilong,  Rohtak, Ranchi, Raipur, Triruchirappali, Kashmipur, Udaipur, Nagpur, Amritsar, Both Gaya, Sirmaur, Vishakapattinam, Sambalpur, and ammu.

Programmes: The management programmes include MBA, Post Graduate Diploma  in Management, FBM, Fellow Programmes in Management.

Who can take up CAT: Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) category candidates need 45% marks in graduation. Candidates in the final year of Graduation are also eligible to apply for CAT 2021. Candidates who have completed professional degree (CA/CS/ICWA) with 45% marks.      

   
Examination Pattern: This exam tests the applicant on Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Ability (QA).

For every correct answers 3 marks are awarded, however 1 mak is reduced for an incorrect answer.   The exam is taken online over a period of three hours, with one hour per section. The test is conducted every year by one of the IIMs based on a policy of rotation.
