Located in the city of Dehradun, Uttarakhand, the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) is a premier institute for research, higher education and training in the field of Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics and GPS Technology for Natural Resources, Environmental and Disaster Management. It was established in the year 1966 with the objective of taking the outcomes at international level.   


Formerly known as Indian Photo-interpretation Institute (IPI), was established with the collaboration of the Government of The Netherlands. The institute was renamed to be called Indian Institute for Remote Sensing (IIRS) in 1972.


Now, functioning under the purview of ISRO, the institute provides training, education and capacity building programmes that are designed to meet the requirements of professionals at working levels, fresh graduates, researchers, academia, and decision makers. 


Apart from offering 4-month Certificate programmes, it provides 10 month PG Diplomas, Post Graduate programmes. IIRS also offers research programmes in collaboration with other educational institutions. Further, it also offers online studies through distance education mode.

Eligibility: Should have completed Undergraduate or Postgraduate programme in anyone domain such as Physics, Electronics, Mathematics, Geology, Computer Science. However, depending on the choice of the course the eligibility criteria will change. 


Admission procedure: Students admission is carried out based on the eligibility criteria, written exam scores, education skills and Interview
