UTC, SOS Children's Villages announce 'Project Vidya'- 21-Jun-2014
Kochi: United Technologies Corporation (UTC) in partnership with SOS Children's Villages India has launched 'Project Vidya' to support the education of 800 children living in SOS Children's Villages across nine cities.
'Project Vidya' will offer the children access to quality education, mentoring and additional support to facilitate improved academic performance.
This initiative would be instrumental in paving the way toward a sustainable livelihood and financial self-reliance for these children, a press release said.
'Project Vidya' was formally launched at SOS Children's Village at Edathala, near here yesterday by Anil Kumar, Manager, Sales, UTC and C Sreekumar, Village Director, SOS Children's Village, Kochi.
The initiative will support children between the ages of 4-21 years, across the SOS Villages at Kochi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar, Hyderabad, Alibaug (near Mumbai), Faridabad, Bangalore and Bhimtal (Uttarakhand).
In addition, UTC employees in India will also spend time and share their knowledge and expertise with the children through the company's employee volunteer programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said: "We believe an environment where individuals are empowered with resources and skills enhancement opportunities is the best means to progress. And with children, education plays a pivotal role in empowering them to make progress and shape their own future".
The event was also marked by the unveiling of the Project Vidya logo and a painting competition by the children at the Village.
