Law is one of the highest paying fields at the global level. Opportunities are bright for legal professionals who are skilled, constantly upgrade their domain specific knowledge. Highly skilled legal professionals, particularly in Western countries earn much more than any other field.


Courses: 


Students having passed any group with at least 50% in class 12th can pursue law courses. Generally, though, B.A.L.L.B., BBA.L.L.B., B.Com.L.L.B., are some of the 5-year undergraduate law courses offered, there are no major differences between these courses.


These degrees are offered for the convenience of the students. Students from any stream like Arts, Science, Maths can opt for BA.L.L.B and BBA.L.L.B courses according to their own choice.


Mostly, admissions are carried out based on a national level entrance test called CLAT - 'Common Law Admission Test'. Universities conduct admissions through a separate entrance test too. In some states, including Tamil Nadu, admissions are provided to state government law colleges and universities based on 12th standard marks.


Opportunities:


There are many opportunities for law students. Recently, new types of jobs are also emerging. Law students can practice as a civil or criminal laywer, depending on their interest.


Through competitive examinations, the post of Judicial Magistrate can be obtained. It is also possible to work as Public Prosecutor - PP in Government Police Department, Government Pleader - GP in Civil Division, Special PP in Central Government's CBI or State Government's CID Divisions. 


It is also possible to get top government jobs like IAS, IPS etc after passing civil services exams conducted by UPSC. They can also work as legal advisors in private and corporate companies. May also opt to study for a Master of Laws degree, LLM. Then, after completing a Ph.D. can work as a legal researcher and professor.  


While studying...


To get a better future, one should specialise in any discipline such as Criminal Law, Labor Law, Family Law, International Law, Constitutional Law with great deal of interest and depth. Sound knowledge on the specialised field and excellent oratory skills are essential. Need to be updated with new changes, legal amendments, judgments etc.


During the studying period of study 'mood court', one month 'internship' per every year should be practiced properly. One can learn the basics and legal nuances well by taking training from a senior lawyer.  


Various value added courses like Cybercrime and Forensic Law, Human Rights Law Arbitration, Corporate Law, Environmental Law are also offered by many educational institutes. Certificate and Diploma courses offered in these areas of specialisation can also be pursued by others too.
