International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) is a specialized institute for population-based studies and training in Mumbai functioning under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

Importance:

Established in 1956, the 'Demographic Training and Research Centre', was functioning under this name till the 1970s. After which the institute was renamed as IIPS, got the status of Deemed to be university in 1985.

Being a pioneer in providing studies and carrying out researches related to population, the institute has seven academic departments. During the past years, students from different countries of Asia and the Pacific region, Africa and North America have trained at the Institute.

Courses Offered:

* M.A./M.Sc., in Population Studies

* M.Sc., in Bio-Statistics and Demography - MPD,

* Master of Population Studies - M.E.S.,

* Ph.D., in Population Studies/ Bio-Statistics and Demography

* Post-Doctoral Fellowship - PDF,

Apart from these, MA in Population Studies is also offered through distance education system.

Scholarship:

Based on the qualification, eligible students are given a scholarship ranging from Rs.5000 to Rs.50000 per month.

Qualifications:

For admission to Master's course one should have passed Bachelor's degree in specified discipline with 55% marks. For Ph.D., one must have a master's degree from a recognized institution. Final year students can also apply.

How to Apply:

Students can apply for these courses through the official website of IIPS.

Admission Procedure:

The selection will be made on the basis of an Online Test. The Online Entrance Test will comprise objective type questions of multiple choices. The syllabus of Entrance Test will consist of basic General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, English Grammar, Population, Health and Statistics/Mathematics.
