According to UPSC, any undergraduate degree from a recognised university is sufficient to write the Civil Services Examination; but this qualification alone is not enough for an IAS officer!

The Government implements several schemes to meet the various needs of the individual citizen. Everyone wanting to become an IAS officer must have a clear knowledge of how high-level governance works toward national and social development.
Politicians in high positions in government often act on the advice of Civil Services officials. Apart from being aware of the powers, duties and jobs of everyone in higher positions, including the member of the assembly, the Member of Parliament, a Civil Services aspirant should have a constant interest in learning new things.
An IAS officer should be polite making people comfortable. Must possess the inherent skill to understand, deal and work with a diverse group of society. Need to have the ability to provide solutions to the problems faced by the government with an open mind. Its highly imperative to be impartial and neutral at all levels.

Aspiring civil servants should be updated with important daily events across the globe. For this, its important to pick and read the right newspapers. In my opinion content in newspapers are better and more consistent than electronic media!
Some media may be biased or seek to impress one group of people. Its important not to take up the opinions of such biased media just like that. Similarly, individual thoughts or views must be genuine and honest.
The civil services exam conducted by UPSC is very fair without any discrimination. To succeed in this exam requires continuous learning. Learning is not just about exams; it is something that is for a lifetime. Life would be a beautiful journey if you keep learning with interest and joy.
