Established in the year 1986, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a pioneer educational institution in imparting education in fashion in an effort to improve largely needed human resources in the Textile and Apparel Design Industry.
Significance:
NIFT was granted autonomous status in 2006 through an Act passed by the Parliament of India. It renders support to the State and Central Government in the area of the Design & Development of Handlooms and Handicrafts.
Apart from imparting education in Design and Technology with state of art facilities at all its campuses, it is also involved in sharing the required expertise with various other industries in India as per international standards requirements.
Campuses:
NIFT operates in 18 cities namely Bangalore, Bhopal, Chennai, Daman, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Patna, Panchkula, Rae Bareli, Shillong, Kangra, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar, Srinagar.

Admission Process:
NIPT Educational Institute conducts three-tier examinations for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate programs. First, you have to write the 'Creative Ability Test' - CAT, followed by the 'General Ability Test' - GAT.
After that, the students are selected through an interview. Admission is carried out based on reservation norms provided by the Government of India. The entrance exam is conducted in various cities of the country.
Note: For B.F.Tech., M.F.M., and M.F.Tech., only GAT exam is required.
