Open Doors report on international students in US!- 6-Dec-2022
In the last week, we saw that about 2 lakh Indian students had gone to America in the 2021 20 academic year, according to Open Doors report.
In this episode, we will see the statistical details of international students in America, as per the same record.
Decline:
There is a gradual decrease in the total number of international students in US from 10, 95, 299 in 2018-19 to 9, 14, 095 in 2020-21. Corona pandemic is one of the greatest reasons believed for this decline. Further, Visa restrictions have also been cited as other reasons for the downward graph.
However, in the year 2021=22 this number has slightly increased to 9, 48, 519. According to this, the total number of foreign students who went to the United States increased by 3.8 percent compared to the previous year.
India ahead of China:
In comparison, the number of Chinese students has decreased from 3, 17, 299 in 2020-21 to 2, 90, 086 in 2021-22. Placed second, the number of Indian students has increased from 1, 67, 582 to 1, 99, 182.
Consequently, in the academic year 2020-21, the number of Chinese students who went to America for higher education decreased by 8.6 percent, while the number of Indian students increased by 18.9 percent in the same year.
Next, the number of South Korean students increased from 39,491 to 40,755. Similarly, the number of Canadian students increased from 25, 143 to 27, 013. Then, the number of Vietnamese students decreased from 21, 631 to 20, 713.
48.1% increase:
Compared to 2020-21 and 2021-22, the number of Indian students who went to the US for undergraduate studies increased by 16.1 percent, from 23,734 to 27,545. Another important detail to note is that the number of Indian students who went for master's degrees has increased by 48.1 percent in a single year.
