Coimbatore: There was an urgent need for mechanisation from seeding to harvest in the agricultural sector considering the reduction in cultivable land and depletion of water resources, Dr K Ramasamy, Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has said.

Coimbatore: There was an urgent need for mechanisation from seeding to harvest in the agricultural sector considering the reduction in cultivable land and depletion of water resources, Dr K Ramasamy, Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has said.
    
Addressing a meeting of Western Zone Regional Research and Extension Advisory Council (RREAC) yesterday, Ramasamy, who is also the chairman of the Council, said there was also the need for agricultural scientists to conduct research based on the farmers' needs to increase the productivity and their
income.
    
The TNAU organised meeting was held at Agricultural Research Station in Bhavanisagar, a Varsity release said here.
    
The members of RREAC, comprising leading farmers, university officers, agricultural scientists, officials from Department of Agriculture held detailed discussion on various research and extension needs pertaining to the Western Zone of Tamil Nadu, it said.
    
It was proposed to exhibit traditional agricultural practices and implements to encourage traditional agriculture and importance will be given to value addition of marketing of agricultural commodities, the release said.
