Importance

Established in the year 1989, this educational institution received autonomous status in 1996 and was recognised as a university in 2006. Currently, functioning in Siruseri, Chennai, CMI attracts visiting faculty from other research institutes around the country, many of whom stay for a semester to teach courses and participate in the research activities of the Institute.

General admission criteria: 

To join in BSc programs, a pass in 12th or equivalent is a must.  

The applicant should have completed Bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline to join in M.Sc. programs. 

For Ph.D. programs mandatory to have completed a Master's degree in the relevant discipline.

Eligibility for Admission

B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics and Computer Science:    12th standard or equivalent.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics and Physics:    12th standard or equivalent.

M.Sc. in Mathematics:    Undergraduate degree (BA, BSc, BE, BTech, �) with a strong background in mathematics.

M.Sc. in Computer Science:    Undergraduate degree (BA, BSc, BE, BTech, �) with a strong background in computer science.

M.Sc. in Data Science:    Undergraduate degree (BA, BSc, BE, BTech, �) with a background in mathematics/statistics/computer science.

Ph.D. in Mathematics:    B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc.(Math)/M.Sc.(Math).

Ph.D. in Computer Science:    B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc.(C.S.)/M.C.A.

Ph.D. in Physics:    M.Sc.(Physics).

Admission Procedure:

Generally, for Ph.D. programs in CMI, applicants need to write Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) or NBHM.  For other programs admission is carried through a separate entrance test.

Entrance Test Centers:

The entrance exam is held in various cities across the country including Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Bengaluru, Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Thiruvananthapuram and Hyderabad.

Scholarship:

Eligible selected students are provided with the stipend ranging from Rs.5000 to Rs.35000 per month. Depending on the student's academic performance in each semester, a decision is made regarding the continuation of the scholarship.
