This was announced by Chemicals and Fertilisers Ananth Kumar while addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of boys and girls hostels of Central Institute for Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) CIPET at Murthal, Haryana.

"The government plans to increase the number of Central Institute for Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) from the current 23 to 100 in next 5 years," an official statement quoted Kumar as saying.

This would help in honing the skills of about 4 lakh students every year in the upcoming sector of plastics and polymers, he added.

CIPET is an accredited national institution devoted to Academic, Technology Support & Research (ATR) activities for the growth of polymer & allied industries in the country.

Kumar said the government is working to improve skill development and fulfil the PM's dream of 'Make in India'.

Kumar said the CIPET, Murthal will be upgraded to Higher Learning Centre which would give the degrees of B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD. He said the government is committed to providing one more CIPET in Haryana.

CIPET Murthal was set up in 2005. It has about 1000 students who  are being given various diplomas and certificate courses. The additional hostel facilities would help to develop 600 more skilled manpower every year from this campus, which is spraed over 10 acre of land.

Stressing on 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle' mantra for plastic waste management, he said specialised courses for such waste management would be started.

Plastic industry is having a capacity of 12 million tonnes at present, which is likely to go up to 20 million tonnes by the end of this decade.

On the issue of fertiliser availability in the country, Kumar said that there is no shortage.

He said fertiliser security is the basis of food security and the government is ensuring timely and adequate supply. A better distribution systems can help the farmers, he added.
