National Eligibility Test - NET is a national level eligibility test to be written to work as Assistant Professor and to carry out research activities through fellowship at Indian Institutions.


NTA - National Testing Agency conducts this examination twice a year on behalf of the University Grants Commission. NET is also a qualifying examination for national level scholarships like NFSC, NFOBC, MANF. Also, this exam is necessary for admission to Ph.D. programs at various educational institutes. This exam is conducted for a total of 83 subjects.


Qualifications:


Must have passed relevant Master's degree with minimum 55% marks in any of the specified course. The maximum age to apply for Junior Research Fellowship- JRF is 30. However, as per norms, there is relaxation in age limit and minimum marks for special categories. There is no age restriction for the applicants to qualify as Assistant Professor.


Selection Process:


This computer-based examination consists of two papers. The examination will carry 50 questions in the first paper and 100 questions in the second paper which will be for a total of 300 marks. For every correct answer 2 marks are awarded. However, there are no 'Negative' marks for a wrong answer.


The first paper will test the student's knowledge of teaching and research methods, and the second paper will contain subject-specific questions in 'objective' format. Questions will be asked in English and Hindi only.
