Cattle and domestic animals are man's best friend and a source of great assistance to farmers. With the growing importance of living being apart from human beings, the need for veterinary experts has become essential.

Courses related to veterinary science are offered by a large number of educational institutes across the country in an effort to produce such professionals.

Job Opportunities:

Huge demand persists for trained veterinary professionals in many fields right from dairy production, meat export, goat and cow rearing, animal husbandry and production to taking care of domestic animals like cats, dogs, zoological parks and biological research.

Many jobs and self-employment opportunities are available like maintaining the health of dogs in security and police departments, working as a lecturer in educational institutes, starting private pet clinics, and conducting research in Indian government institutions.

Companies involved in modern research in biology, dairy industry, poultry industry, animal husbandry, food processing etc., have a high demand for veterinary graduates.

Courses Offered:

Five-and-a-half-year Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry Courses � B.V.Sc. & A.H., and four-year B.Tech. are provided.

Educational Qualification:

For admission to undergraduate courses should have studied Physics, Chemistry or Biology or Vocational subjects in Plus 2.

Educational Institutions:

Veterinary Colleges are functional at seven locations including Chennai, Namakkal, Tirunelveli, Orathanadu, Salem, Udumalpet and Theni. Apart from these, the College of Food and Dairy Technology in Chennai and the College of Poultry Production and Management in Hosur are functioning.

Admission Locations:

There are 660 seats in B.V.Sc., & A.H. courses and 100 seats in Dairy, Poultry Production and Food Technology courses.
