Kolkata: West Bengal Left Front chairman Biman Bose said that Partha Chatterjee should step down as the state education minister if he fails to clear the university campuses of 'unruly' elements.

"If the state education minister fails to deliver and ensure that the education campuses are free of unruly elements then he should better leave his job. He should tell the chief  minister that he is unable to perform and he be shifted to some other ministry," Bose told reporters.

Meanwhile, Calcutta University Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das urged West Bengal government to take action against those involved in the assault of professors of the university and said it would be impossible for him to act as the vice-chancellor, if action was not taken on the basis of his report.

The vice-chancellor was reacting to an uproar over the brutal assault on Calcutta University professors, allegedly by Trinamool Chhatra Parishad activists on Wednesday.
