Cambridge English training for corporation teachers- 17-Jul-2015

Chennai: Cambridge English Language Assessment’s India office partnered with Tech Mahindra Foundation to inaugurate the third batch of teacher training project for the teaching staff of Chennai Corporation schools.

The event was held at Corporation of Chennai school grounds, Nungambakkam. The main aim is to increase the linguistic and pedagogical competence of primary and secondary English language teachers of Corporation schools in Chennai.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Saidai Samiyappan Duraisamy, Mayor, Corporation of Chennai, Mr. Vikram Kapur, Principal Secretary/Commissioner, Corporation of Chennai, Ms. Shilpa Prabhakar Satish, I.A.S, Deputy Commissioner, Corporation of Chennai, Mr. Dr. Loveleen Kackar, CEO, Tech Mahindra Foundation, Ms. Vijayapadma Srinivas, Senior Assessment Manager, Cambridge English Language Assessment  and other key officials from the Corporation of Chennai, Cambridge English and Tech Mahindra Foundation.

Cambridge English Language Assessment certificates were given to the previous batch of 215 Chennai Corporation School teachers.

Inauguration of Corporation of Chennai fully equipped training center also took place today.

The other important aspects of the project are to focus on both language development as well as teaching methodology.

Teachers at A1/A2 level will undergo a 55 hour language training program coupled with a 35 hour teaching methodology program they will take the Cambridge English: Key examination. Teachers at the B1/B2 level will undergo a 55 hour language training program coupled with 50 hour teaching methodology program theywill take the Cambridge English: Preliminary and Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) module 3.

Cambridge English Language Assessment, together with the Tech Mahindra Foundation, is working with the Corporation of Chennai on a professional development programme for the city’s English Language teachers. The assessment first measured the skills of 100 teachers from 79 primary schools across the city, using the Cambridge English Placement Test. The same teachers then undertook a short 48 hour preparation course before taking either Cambridge English: Key (KET) or Cambridge English: Preliminary (PET).
