IIT, NIT admissions: Third round of seat allocation- 18-Jul-2015

Chennai: As per the revised schedule, the third round of seat allocation for admission to the premier institutions across the country including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the National Institutes of technology (NITs) are under way on Saturday at the official site of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), www.josaa.nic.in.

After the end of the first round of seat allocation for admissions to the 18 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in the country and the Indian School of Mines (ISM), 9,415 of the total 10,006 seats available were taken, while the remaining 591 were up for grabs in the second round.
As per the revised schedule of the Joint Seat Allocation 2015 for 87 institutes comprising 18 IITs, ISM, 31 NITs, 18 IIITs (Triple-I-Ts) and 18 Other-GFTIs, the third round of seat allocation was scheduled to be conducted on July 18.

In all, 33,989 candidates were allotted seats in Round 1 and of these, 26,597 candidates accepted the seats. This resulted in the overall vacancy of 7,383 seats at the end of Round 1. Of the 7,383 seats, 591 are in the 18 IITs and the ISM, 4,338 in the NITs, 826 in the IIITs and 1,628 in the Other GFTIs.

The academic sessions are scheduled to start in the IITs on July 22, while it will be July 27 for the NITs. So far, the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering have been the most-sought-after choices amongst students, followed by Mechanical and Civil Engineering, with IIT Bombay being their favourite.

The National Informatics Centre merged the JEE Main ranks submitted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) with the JEE Advanced data, after which around 20,000 candidates had registered for admissions.
