Chennai: After 17 days of rigorous counselling for admissions to the various courses in the engineering colleges in the state, as many as 63,556 seats have been allotted.
A little less than 1.5 lakh seats are available for allotment by way of single-window counseling under the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2015 that will be on till July 28. Just 12 more days of counselling remains, while there are over 57% seats awaiting allotment.
Of the 86,453 students who were called for the engineering counselling sessions, 22,587 failed to turn up, while 310 candidates skipped seat selection.
Since the start of the seat allotment process on July 1, the percentage of absentees has been fluctuating—it was 37.53% on day one and after 17 days of counselling, the average now stands at 26.13. On the seventeenth day of counselling, on Friday, as many as 5,634 candidates were called for the counselling and 3,717 seats were allotted.
