Chennai: If visiting employment exchanges for registration was a back-breaking task and the wait for job opportunities was an unending proposition, here is good news to you!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the National Career Service (NCS) that aims at transforming the traditional National Employment Service that is a network of 978 employment exchanges. This new career-counselling portal will modernise all government-run employment exchanges and provide an online platform to jobseekers and employers.

It has been stated that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) database will be used by the government as a tool to verify academic qualifications of jobseekers registered with the new NCS.
According to a Labour Ministry statement, the government has planned "integration (of portal) with the CBSE databases for verification of candidate academic performance". This apart, the government also plans to integrate the NCS with the PAN/TAN database for authentication of employers.

In the previous system, jobseekers had to physically visit the exchanges for registration, verify their records and wait for opportunities to come. Similarly, the employers had to visit employment exchanges for posting job vacancies and obtaining a list of eligible candidates. Now, the NCS makes available a rich repository of career content on over 3,000 occupations across 53 sectors. The services under the NCS are available online and also can be accessed directly, through career centres and common service centres.

It has been reported that the NCS portal will also organise job fairs where both employers and jobseekers can interact. A dedicated helpdesk (multi-lingual) is also available from Tuesday to Sunday on 1800-425-1514 for assisting users.

All registrations on the NCS will be Aadhaar linked. It already has a database of 2 crore jobseekers who are registered with state employment exchanges. They can activate their accounts using their Aadhaar card information.
