Chennai: With 117 students, the 18th Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has launched its first academic session.
But the IIT-Palakkad (Kerala) had just six students from Kerala and a majority of the students were from Uttar Pradesh.
Currently, the institute is conducting all its activities from a temporary campus and the main campus will be set up in a 500-acre plot in Palakkad. Admissions were conducted for four streams of engineering (B.Tech) through a joint process, which also included the other 17 IITs in the country, 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), the Indian School of Mines (ISM), 18 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and other 18 Government-Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs).
