New Delhi: The Union HRD Ministry has decided to scrap the search-cum-selection committee for selection of the new CBSE chairman and advertise afresh inviting application for the post.
Confirming this, sources said moves in this direction would be initiated soon.
The development comes after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has rejected the panel of names proposed by the Ministry for the CBSE chairman's post in April this year.
It is learnt the Cabinet Secretary has raised objections to the names, mainly over the experience criteria adopted for selecting them.
The ACC had directed the ministry to complete the selection process within two months and submit its proposal to it for consideration before October 31.
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been without a regular full-time chairman since December 2014.
Joint secretary in the Ministry Y S K Seshu Kumar has been entrusted with the additional charge of CBSE chairman as per the directions.
Satbir Bedi, who was understood to be Irani’s top choice for the job, was handing the additional charge so far.
