NGOs demand case against cops in students' attack case in Rajasthan- 8-Oct-2015
Jaipur: A group of NGOs today demanded that criminal cases be registered against police officials who had deliberately beaten up students demanding appointment of teachers in their schools recently in Tonk district.
NGOs including People Union of Civil Liberty (PUCL), Rajasthan University Women Association (RUWA) had sent an eight-member fact-finding team to review the situation and file a report on September 29 incident in which students, mainly girls, were beaten up in lathicharge in Aligarh area of Tonk, a statement said here.
Many of the injured girls have not recovered and were requiring immediate proper treatment, the joint statement said.
Criminal cases under sections 353 for assault, 354, 307, 324 for grievous hurt, and section 23 for assault to child against Station House Officer (SHO) of Aligarh who is responsible for the highhandedness, and cops' brutality on school children, the release said quoting Kavita Srivastava of PUCL and Lad Kumari Jain of RUWA.
The NGOs have also demanded that false cases registered against the students be withdrawn forthwith, and cash compensation be given to the injured students.
Besides, the teachers of English, Social Science, Sanskrit, Geography, and Political science be appointed in the Government Higher Secondary School so that village students get proper education during the current academic session, they said.
Scores of students mainly girls were injured in police lathicharge outside their school in Chouru on September 29 while they were demanding appointment of teachers of various subjects, and many of the injured were rushed to Uniara Primary Health Centres (PHCs) by ambulance.
