New Delhi: To help the students get an insight into his life, CBSE concluded an expression series on Jayaprakash Narayan whose total revolution led to the defeat of the Congress-led government after Emergency.

It was for the first time that such an expression series was dedicated to Narayan by CBSE, which has about 15,500 schools affiliated to it in India and abroad.

The series was held in three categories for students from class I to XII, inviting them to submit their entries of poems, essays or drawings. The participation was however, voluntary in nature and the series was organised yesterday to mark the 113th birth anniversary of the social reformer.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, extolling virtues on him at a function yesterday had described him as "an institution, a light house and a role model" and had said that "a new political generation was born during the Emergency that was fully dedicated to democratic values, inspired by JP."

The latest initiative from CBSE comes after it also invited students to an expression series consecutively for the second year on Deendayal Upadhyaya, an ideologue and one of the important leaders of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.

The board is also planning to organise a series on the late President APJ Abdul Kalam on his birthday on October 15 to pay tributes to the 'Missile man'.
