Gwalior: Union Chemicals and Fertiliser Minister Anant Kumar today announced to set up Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) here and establish a plastic park in the city.

"The CIPET will start functioning in the city by April 2016, temporarily, and I have asked the Madhya Pradesh Government to allot 10 acre land and prepare a Detail Project Report (DPR) for constructing its permanent building and other works," he told reporters here.

Kumar said the idea of setting up CIPET and Plastic Park in Gwalior was given by local MP and Union Minister for Steel and Mines, Narenda Singh Tomar, who was also present on the occasion.

The Plastic Park will be set up in the region with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore and it would be established in area of 73 acres.

The state government has also agreed to provide land for it.

Kumar said that the proposed Plastic Park and CIPET would change the economic face of Gwalior and it would emerge as a plastic hub in the country.

"Gwalior would emerge as a major investment centre like Indore and Bhopal," he said, adding it will also generate huge employment opportunities for the people in the region.
