New Delhi: St Stephen's college principal Valson Thampu has issued a show-cause notice to mathematics faculty member and president of the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA), Nandita Narain for allegedly obstructing functioning of Bhagini Nivedita College by staging a protest there.

The action by Thampu comes following a complaint by the principal of Nivedita college who has alleged that Nandita Narain has violated college rules and obstructed functioning of the institution by leading a dharna in campus on January 4.

The notice issued by the principal has asked Narain to give her explanation within three days.

Narain, had last week led a protest at the said college demanding the ouster of principal Purbi Sakia over alleged cases of financial and administrative irregularities.

The college's Governing Body (GB) had constituted a fact-finding committee last month to probe the allegations against Saikia.

Narain, has slammed the notice issued to her maintaining  that she went to Bhagini Nivedita College in capacity of DUTA president and not St Stephen's faculty.

"I went their for routine DUTA matters. There are serious allegations against the principal Purbi Saikia and we staged a  dharna over the issue. The protest was peaceful and there was no obstruction to the functioning of college. Moreover, I went  there in capacity of DUTA prez and not Stephen's faculty," she said.

Thampu and Narain, have been at loggerheads in the past with the DUTA president demanding his removal over various allegations.

Last year, some DU-affiliated colleges including  Kalindi College, Deshbandhu College and the varsity's School of Open Learning (SOL) had complained to the DU administration that Narain has been interfering in their functioning.

Delhi University had written to Stephen's highlighting the complaints against Narain, but the college had shot the communication down saying that the charges were not specific to it, therefore, DU would be the appropriate authority for initiating any action in the matter.
