New Delhi: The Supreme Court today dismissed a plea seeking fixing of liability of educational institutions and paying of compensation to students or their kin who have been victim of any mishap.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India T S Thakur said that the court can't amend the law and the petitioner should approach the government in this regard.

"Courts are not going into this. This is not our job. You go before appropriate forum including the government and get necessary directions issued," the bench also comprising justices R Banumathi and U U Lalit said.

The bench observed that whoever does any wrong, for them law will take its own course and it need not go into all this.

The bench dismissed the plea as withdrawn after advocate J P Dhanda appearing for Vineet Dhanda agreed to withdraw the plea.

The plea sought direction to the Centre and state governments to ensure safety of children from any mishap including of sexual abuses in schools and other educational institutions.

It also sought compensation to the victims and their kind of any mishap in the educational institutions contending that there is neither any guideline nor any law to fix liability in such cases.

The plea said that due to the recklessness of school administration and lack of proper guidelines lives of school going children and colleges are endangered.
