New Delhi: Social reformer Sri M, who has traversed over 5000 km on foot to spread the message of peace and harmony, today offered to counsel the teachers and students of JNU against the backdrop of the sedition row.

Calling it "unfortunate", 66-year old Sri M said "confrontation" should be avoided and the matter resolved through "dialogue".

"It is very unfortunate. We are a democracy. Instead of confrontation and talking of rules and laws, there should be a dialogue.

"I want to go to JNU. I am trying to fix some time tomorrow evening. We want to meet the teachers, staff and the administration and tell them to be at peace so that we can have a dialogue," he said after addressing Parliamentarians with whom he shared his experiences during the 'padyatra'
called 'walk for hope'.

The function was attended by both BJP and Congress leaders, including Union Ministers Ravi Prasad Shankar, Venkaiah Naidu, Suresh Prabhu and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and MPs Tarun Vijay, Oscar Fernandes and PJ Kurien, among others.

Noting that young students are like seeds, Sri M said they can be transformed through dialogue.

"…because the children are young, they think. In my house, if my son gets angry about something, what would I do. I would do a dialogue," he said.

Sri M, who himself was a left supporter during his college days, expressed confidence that he can help "neutralize" the politically-charged environment in the institution through counselling.

"I am from Kerela. In college I was myself a left activist. I know how their minds work," he said.

He also deplored the recent attacks on journalists and students by advocates at Patiala House Courts and said lawyers should not take law into their hands.

"When we need justice we go to court. But if people wearing black coats beat us up where would we go? What is the solution for a common man like me," he said.

Sri M , originally from Kerala but now based in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, has been on a unique mission since January 2015. He along with 70 volunteers has been on a Manav Ekta (Unity of Humanity) mission, walking from Kanyakumari to Kashmir to spread the message of harmony, especially in places that have seen communal violence in the past.

He reached Delhi on February 27 and will walk 1500 km more before concluding the journey in Kashmir.
