Varanasi: Six Banaras Hindu University (BHU) students were today expelled and another was suspended for stalling the functioning of a CT scan centre at Sir Sunder Lal Hospital and staging a dharna which affected medical services and disrupted academic functioning.

Abshiek Kumar Singh, Bhanu Pratap Singh, Mrityunjay Tiwari, Shashank Singh, Shashi Shekhar, Vaibhav Kumar Tiwari have been expelled and another student Pawan Kumar Singh has been suspended till further orders, a BHU statement said.

These students have been staging dharna on the campus after locking the 64 Slice CT Scan Centre since March 3, which was affecting medical services and also disrupting the academic functioning of the varsity, it said.

The expelled students had alleged a large scale corruption in running of CT Scan unit in PPP model and claimed that they were staging dharna to press for their demand that the unit be taken over by BHU and should run on no profit, no loss basis.
