National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Joint Entrance Examination-

The Bachelor of Science programme in Hospitality and Hotel Administration is offered jointly by the National Council for Hotel Management and the Indira Gandhi National Open University. The Three-Year programme equips students with all the required skills, knowledge and attitude to efficiently discharge supervisory responsibilities in the Hospitality sector. The programme also involves in-depth laboratory work for students to acquire required knowledge and skills standards in the operational areas of Food Production, Food and Beverage Service, Front Office Operation and House Keeping and providing managerial inputs in Hotel Accountancy, Food Safety and Quality, Human Resource Management, Facility Planning, Financial Management, Strategic Management, Tourism Marketing and Tourism Management.

National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology is an autonomous body under Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The Council centrally regulates academics for hospitality and hotel administration and other eleven structured courses of studies that are imparted at the existing 21Central Institutes of Hotel Management, 5 State Govt. Institutes of Hotel Management, 4 Private Institutes of Hotel Management affiliated with NCHMCT and 6 Food Craft Institutes located in different parts of the country. All Institutes uniformly follow standardized course curricula prescribed by the Council for the different professional programmes.

Quality of education and training provided by the Institutes help students to emerge as professionally qualified personnel for hospitality and other allied service sectors. The Council has till date trained more than 36000 Hospitality Managers, Executives and other operational personnel. Its alumni from affiliated Institutes occupy key positions in hospitality industry and in academic institutions both in India and abroad.

Minimum qualification for admission is a pass in the examination of 10+2 system of Senior Secondary education or its equivalent with English as one of the compulsory subject. Those appearing in 10+2 or equivalent examination can also appear in JEE 2008 for being considered on provisional basis. Provisional admissions will stand cancelled if proof of having passed the qualifying examination (10+2 or its equivalent) is not submitted to the allotted Institute at the time of admission.  Admissions will be subject to verification of facts from the original certificates/ documents to be produced by the candidates at the time of admission in Institute. Even after admission to an Institute, if an applicant is at a later date found ineligible on account of having submitted false information or testimonials or for having suppressed any material information, his/her admission will be cancelled and the fee paid will also be forfeited. Decision of National Council regarding the eligibility shall be final.

Question Paper will be bilingual i.e. in English and Hindi (except for English Language)

Marking Scheme for JEE Written Test
For each question you will be awarded one mark if you have darkened only one bubble corresponding to the correct answer. In case you have not darkened any bubble or have darkened more than one bubble, you will be awarded zero mark for that question. There will be negative marking to the extent of half mark for darkening a wrong bubble. There will be no negative marking for Aptitude for Service Sector.

Merit List and Tie Breaking
The Category wise merit list of the selected candidates shall be based on marks secured in the Written Test. If two or more candidates have secured same marks in the Written Test, the marks obtained by the concerned candidates in the senior secondary examination i.e. 10+2 or equivalent will be taken into account for breaking the tie. The candidate awaiting result for 10+2 shall not be considered for tie breaker situation. In case of tie in 10+2 marks, the marks of +10 (Secondary Examination) shall be consider for breaking the tie.  In event of tie in the 10th marks, the tie shall be eventually broken on the seniority in the date of birth.

About allocation of seats through de-centralized Counselling
National Council will conduct counselling at five IHMs at Delhi, Chandigarh, Chennai, Kolkata & Mumbai.  The candidates who appear in the entrance examination held on 10th May 2008 at the examination centers as indicated against each Institute shall attend counselling as per schedule of counselling given on inner back cover page of the Brochure.  Therefore, the candidates who have appeared in the written test centers indicated against each IHM shall be permitted to participate in the counselling.  Further details about the mechanism of allotment through counselling at the identified institutes shall be given on the website at the time of the declaration of All India JEE merit list.

Important Note:  In case of any change in the counseling pattern other than the one explained above, the same shall be announced in the Councils web site on or before 15th May 2008.
 
Call Letters to eligible candidates for attending Counselling
Counselling shall be conducted from third week of June, 2008 at five Centers simultaneously i.e. IHMs at Delhi, Chandigarh, Chennai, Kolkata & Mumbai for which shortlisted candidates can download their call letter and associated conditions and directions from website i.e. www. nchmct. org by entering their roll number and attend counseling at the centers given above accordingly. 
 
Documents required at the time of  Counselling
Counselling will be held from 3rd week of June, 2008 onwards for allotment of Institute to candidates based on their merit and ranking in JEE-2008. Candidates called for  Counselling as per schedule given at inner last page should bring original and attested copies of following certificates:
  • Result of 10+2 (mark sheet) issued by respective Boards of Examination
  • Proof of Age as per Secondary School Certificates.
  • Original and Attested copies  of Secondary Examination marksheet
  • Caste / Physically Handicapped Certificate (wherever applicable)
  • Candidates called for Counselling should also bring a non refundable Demand Draft for Rs.10,000/- drawn in favour of National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology payable at New Delhi.
  • Candidates placed in compartment in qualifying Examination in 2008 shall not be eligible for Counselling.
  • Withdrawal of Candidature at the Time of Counselling

Candidates are free to withdraw their candidature on spot at the time of Counselling. In that case, fee of Rs.10,000/- deposited in the form of Demand Draft / Pay Order shall be returned to them on the spot by counseling center administrator.  Fee of Rs.10,000/- so collected at the time of Counselling shall not be refunded after acceptance of allotment of Institute by the candidate.

 
Refund of Fee after taking admission at the allotted Institute
In case of withdrawal within a month from the date of admission at the allotted Institute, 50% of the deposited fee i.e. (Rs.10000 + fee deposited at allotted Institute ) shall be refunded by the concerned Institute.  No fee will be refunded if, admission is withdrawn after 30 days from the date of admission on any ground except caution money.
 
Merit Scholarships and Financial Assistance
a) National Council has instituted Merit Scholarships Scheme with the help of Industry for meritorious students who obtain Ist, IInd and IIIrd position on All India basis in Councils Annual Examination in the Ist year, IInd year and IIIrd year of the course.

b) National Council also provides Financial Assistance to the tune of Rs.20,000/- one each to Ist year, IInd year and IIIrd year students to the most deserving Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe candidate of each Institutes who fulfill eligibility criteria as per stated guidelines given by National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology.

c) Scheduled Case/ Scheduled Tribe candidates can avail financial assistance from their respective State Governments for which the concerned Institute will issue studentship certificate indicating fee received from the student.
 
 
 
Inter-Institute Transfer/ Migration
Institute once allotted at the time of Counselling will be final. The National Council does not allow inter-institute transfer or migration on any ground during the course. As such, no request for transfer or migration will be entertained.
