The Tamil Nadu Open University was established in 2002 by the Government of Tamil Nadu after getting the approval of the Legislative Assembly with the intention to benefit those who are deprived of and/or denied the access to higher education, especially destitutes, physically challenged, working men and women, economically weaker sections of the society, and to those who had discontinued education for various reasons.
