Recently a group of psychologists conducted a survey with 500 students from Delhi.
The objective of the survey was to identify the role models in the mind of students. The survey revealed that most of the students do not prefer politicians to be their role models.
It is true that the Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru were once a national hero in young generations mind. But, the survey reveals that the present politicians did not seem to be hero to them.
Among the total students who participated in the survey, 13 % of them had surprising impressions on the yesteryears politicians and freedom fighters. The survey revealed that the students had good regard for the earlier politicians due to their good principles.
It showed that 30% of the students follow their own parents as role models. Though a general complaint prevails that children are not obedient to their parents, the survey results showed that the children activities were based on the behavior of the parents. The students expressed that the parents therefore should behave in the way, and they want their child to grow up in life.
13% of the students consider their teachers as their role model. Therefore, the teachers have a great responsibility in developing the students psychologically and behaviorally, the survey result shows. Students also look up at businessman and scientists, in relation to role models in profession.
Students believe that they get their needed inspiration from these people. 7% of the students say that their role models are sports personality. The survey stresses, since, the education provision already provides only very less importance towards this field, it is necessary to instill fascination for experts of this field.
This survey also concludes that the politicians need to change their ways, thinking and experience based on feeling, realizing the respect that the students have for personalities of various fields.
