Everyone is quite aware that lives of all the living creature is based on natural resources… However, except human being, all other living creatures are only in search of food on this earth!

Seeking food only when they need, the living creatures not only in one way, but in all the way protect the natural resources. But, only humans unnecessarily exploit nature for selfish gains, going way beyond the needed requirement. Apart from being the first and foremost reason for exploiting natural resources, but this is also the important reason.

Need for deliberation:

Though, we may laud over the recent progresses such as developed civilization, unparalleled technological growth, exceptional scientific findings; nobody can deny the fact that all these developments were possible only because of exploitation of resources. How is it really possible to fulfill our needs, without spoiling the resources? We need to find a précis solution to this is one foremost important question!

Keeping this vital issue in mind, recently, World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) was held in Delhi. Hosted by The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI), this summit was very much a need of the hour. It’s highly appreciable that several intellectuals from diverse domains came to together to discuss about this crucial issue and tried to come into some common consensus!

Important discussions:

Important topics that were put forth for discussion was Climate changes, Air pollution, Resources of water and land, Food Safety, Protection of Living Beings, Protection of Forest, Sustainable Resource Development, Alternative Power, Pollution Free Alternative Transport System, Clean Energy, Challenges Faced to Curb Carbon Emission, International Solar Alliance and Possible Means to Introduce Sustainable Development in Higher Education.

In the inaugural session, President of India, Pranab Mukerjee spoke on "Climate changes threatening economically developing nations" stressing the need for joint action by nations for a sustainable growth.

Challenges & possibilities:

As a part of the summit, in the talks about Air Pollution, "Nitrogen Oxide in the air has increased in 8% of the cities across the globe, including Delhi, based on a research. This is basically due to the increase in vehicles" told experts with statistics. This revealed the importance of urgent action to be taken on alternative means of energy and transport system.

When young entrepreneurs shared their experience on their startups programs, which they established in line with preserving the environment to the best, seemed to encourage younger generation audiences.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities of companies should not be enforced by the government.CSR activities of certain companies seem as if they carry out for the sake of advertising. As a result, participants felt that all companies should really feel their social responsibility and devise CSR programs in such a way that it brings out Social and Environmental changes.

Industrialists vowed that all the companies would be made to devise their CSR programs for development purposes.

Further, realizing their responsibility in preserving the natural resources, the industrialists said," Trade is very important; but, primarily protecting the earth that we live in is more important to carry out the trade", making the listeners to ponder deeply.

Earlier, exhibition on ‘Business Day’ and ‘Greenovation 2016’ was held to provide a better view on the possibilities of sustainable development. Apart from this, several alliances were made and understandings signed.

In summits like this, it’s good to deliberate, study, find possible solutions and recommendations for the issue of protecting the earth. It should not stop at the gates of the summit, but should be taken to the government and the common man.

Likewise, if everyone from government to common man realize the urgency to take short term and long term actions to protect the grave disaster to happen in the future, certainly "Sustainable Development’ is very much possible.
