New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed universities across the country to conduct "elaborate" training programmes on common Yoga protocol to observe Yoga Day on June 21.

Besides mass Yoga performances, the universities have also been asked to organise discourses, lectures and talks by eminent Yoga experts.

The HRD ministry has issued the directive along with copy of a letter from Ministry of AYUSH regarding celebration of 3rd International Day of Yoga.

The 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly adopted by acclamation draft resolution for observing the International Day of Yoga on June 21 each year.

"The preparations for the celebration of 3rd International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2017 are underway. The Government of India has decided to take forward the momentum created by International Day of Yoga, 2015 and 2016 with greater and more active participation of youth during the current year celebrations," said the letter.

The letter addressed to university vice chancellors said that other events on the day could include Yoga fests, seminars, workshops, musical and cultural programmes based on Yoga.

UGC has also asked the institutions to take support of various reputed and eminent Yoga institutions for providing training to the trainers and other expert advice in celebrations of Yoga Day.
